1a Fira de Vi del Pirineu a Talarn

Diumenge, 5 de Juny 2011

El poble medieval de Talarn, en que casi cada casa encara té un antic celler, ha celebrat els vins que es produeixen actualment a la zona.

On the slopes of Orcau, guarded by a castle of 1.000 years, lie the vineyards of Sauvella. These are home to some unique grapes: the well-known Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Garnacha, Tempranillo, and Macabeo and also the indigenous Sumoll and Brocada. We lovingly cultivate these grapes, with special regard for the environment.

We lovingly cultivate these grapes, with special regard for the environment.

We select the best grapes to create suprising wines with character: an elegant white, a rosé, and red wines, both young and oak-aged.

We heartily invite you to visit Sauvella

On Saturdays we offer guided tours through the vineyards and winery. Afterwards you may taste a few wines in the vinoteca or wine shop.

Custom tours are possible, maximum group size is ten persons.

What else to expect?

A glimpse of deserted village St Joan and its 13th-century chapel.

A view of the castle on the mountain top from different angles.

Orcau also has a fascinating geology: red, gray and yellow layers of rock, ridges, even dinosaur footprints.

These reveal that the area was once a lagoon and a flatland before the mountains formed that we now call the Pyrenees.

New Life for Pyrenees’ Grapes:

A Dutchman reestablishes vineyards in the Pallars Jussà

He had had enough of the rainy days in The Hague and Jeroen Nagtegaal decided that becoming a grapegrower would change his life for the better. He moved to the Penedes in 2002, learnt how to make quality wines in the Rioja and, in 2004, started his own winery. At the same time, his parents retired and moved to their summer house in the village of Orcau (in the Pallars Jussà region). With their support the Sauvella wines came into being. These, in turn, helped

to reintroduce the vineyard in the Southern Pyrenees.

‘That a Dutchman would plant grapes here seemed outlandish to

the local people,’ says Jeroen, ‘ but, because wine is in their blood, they started helping me right away.’ Now he is experimenting with retrieved indigenous grapes, like Brocada. With five hectares of ecological vineyards, he produces a white, a rosé, and four red wines, two of which (of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) are oak-aged: Luscinia Canta and the exquisite Luscinia Eximia. Luscinia, in Latin, means the same as Nagtegaal (his surname) in Dutch: nightingale.

Fem 5.000 litres al any. Tota la producció es ven aquí a la zona. Tenim plantades varietats locals. A la gent li interessa molt comprar un producte local."
